Q and Collector Plates

PPQ's Collector Plate Auctions have a focus on the more exclusive end of the market.

The rare and limited plates that go under the hammer are in demand from collectors, and attract a great deal of attention from the media and public alike. This special night sometimes features the release and unveiling of brand new plate designs, giving those in attendance an exclusive preview and opportunity to purchase. We invite you to sign up for PPQ's PL8 M8 eNews to be kept up to date on future events.

On 24th March 2010 the most recent Collector Plate Auction was held in the beautiful surrounds of Brisbane's Victoria Park Golf Complex. The historic Q70 stole the show at $80,000, with other Q Plates, a few select seven-character combinations and some other rarities such as BNE01, YY and V also up for grabs. There was even some friendly competition between the trades (BUILDER / PLUMBER) as well as a classic city (NEWFARM) versus coast (SURFERS) rivalry. PPQ Collector Plate Auction 2010

Traditional Q Plates were Queensland’s first official registration plates, issued between 1921 and 1955. In 1985 they were reintroduced to the marketplace at ‘The Great Queensland Plate Auction’, creating great interest in the collector plate market.

The popularity of Q Plates continues today due to their significant history, recognisable design and classic simplicity. They give Queenslanders an opportunity to own a piece of the past.

Q Plates, while not available to be purchased online, are available from PPQ and are priced from $3,000 on application. Please contact the PPQ Team to enquire about Q Plates.

Collector Plates, featuring a special two character format, are also popular and allow customers to display unique and personalised initials. While there are many different ways the two characters can be selected, the strongest motivation often stems from the initials of the driver’s name, or to match the model of their motor vehicle.

While not available to be purchased online, Collector Plates are available from PPQ and are priced from $5,000 on application. Please contact the PPQ Team to enquire about Q Plates.
