Q and Collector Plates

Click here to find out more about the PPQ Collector Plate Auction! It's happening on 24th March at Victoria Park Golf Complex in Brisbane's Herston but you must register to attend.

PPQ's Collector Plate Auctions have a focus on the more exclusive end of the market.

The rare and limited plates that go under the hammer are in demand from collectors, and attract a great deal of attention from the media and public alike. This special night also features the release and unveiling of brand new plate designs, enabling those in attendance an exclusive preview and opportunity to purchase.

Tickets to the auction are included in the normal admission to the Brisbane International Motor Show on the day of the auction, however PPQ does have access to a limited number of special auction tickets. Make sure you sign up for PL8 M8 eNews for further information regarding the next PPQ Collector Plate Auction.

The 2007 PPQ Collector Plate Auction, held on Wednesday 7th February, was not the only place to secure a highly sought-after limited seven character combination, however. Recently, the special seven character combination IPSWICH was auctioned during the 2007 Ipswich Show, with proceeds going to the Ipswich Hospice. Fittingly, Ipswich City Mayor Paul Pisasale was the highest bidder, contributing over $12,000 to this great cause. In a separate event, the combination BULLETS was auctioned for $10,000 with proceeds going towards Radio Lollipop.

Traditional Q Plates were Queensland’s first official registration plates, issued between 1921 and 1955. In 1985 they were reintroduced to the marketplace at ‘The Great Queensland Plate Auction’, creating great interest in the collector plate market.

The popularity of Q Plates continues today due to their significant history, recognisable design and classic simplicity. They give Queenslanders an opportunity to own a piece of the past.

Q Plates, while not available to be purchased online, are available from PPQ and are priced from $3,000 on application. Please contact the PPQ Team to enquire about Q Plates.

Collector Plates, featuring a special two character format, are also popular and allow customers to display unique and personalised initials. While there are many different ways the two characters can be selected, the strongest motivation often stems from the initials of the driver’s name, or to match the model of their motor vehicle.

While not available to be purchased online, Collector Plates are available from PPQ and are priced from $5,000 on application. Please contact the PPQ Team to enquire about Q Plates.
