Although the "Slimline No Separator" and "Slimline US" plates visually look the same, they are represented independently in the Transport and Main Roads system. If you want a US Size plate or wish to change to a US Size plate in the future, we suggest you choose the "Slimline US" plates now, otherwise stick with the "Slimline No Separator" option.
Yes you can! Although previously only regular size plates were able to be displayed on the rear of Queensland vehicles, legislation was changed in 2005 to allow for slimline size to be displayed. The slimline option is a very popular one, with many customers finding its small and compact look complements their vehicle's style.

Retro plates can only be attached to a vehicle registered in the same name as the owner of the plates. If there is a secondary owner, then the names must also be in the same order as those on the vehicle registration. The plates cannot be sold and the ownership of the plates cannot be transferred to another person, however the plates can be transferred to another vehicle registered to the original owner of the plates. If the vehicle is transferred to a new owner, the plates must be retained by the original owner and standard issue plates attached to the vehicle. However, Retro/Customised plates can also be upgraded to personalised plates, thereby allowing the owner to sell, transfer or colourise them for a fee.
7-character plates are not available for general sale, however on occasion a limited number of them have been released, each time generating an overwhelming response. Additionally, a small number of 7-character plates have been auctioned at various PPQ Collector Plate Auctions over the past few years. If you are interested in registering your interest for information on any future 7 character releases, please contact the PPQ Team.
Traditional Q Plates were Queensland's first official registration plates, issued between 1921 and 1955. In 1985 they were reintroduced to the marketplace at 'The Great Queensland Plate Auction', creating fresh interest in the collector plate market. The popularity of Q Plates continues today due to their significant history, recognisable design and classic simplicity. They give Queenslanders an opportunity to own a piece of history.
Q Plates, while not available to be purchased online, are available from PPQ and are priced from $3,000 on application. Please contact the PPQ Team to enquire further about Q Plates.
